visitOpen daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with these exceptions:

The UCR Botanic Gardens will be closed on major holidays, during special Gardens events, and when the UCR campus is closed for academic and administrative holidays, winter break, and spring break each year. Be sure to check our website and posted signs before planning your visit.

The UCR campus calendar is posted at registrar.ucr.edu/registrar/academic-calendar/.

Parking

Parking on the UCR campus is managed by TAPS, Transportation & Parking Services, and is available with purchase of a temporary permit. Limited parking (~20 spaces) is available in the UCR Botanic Gardens lot; additional parking is available in nearby Visitor Lot 10 and Commuter Lot 13. A new K-rail has been installed between these lots to reduce vehicle speeds while traveling through the lots and to increase pedestrian safety.

A permit dispenser near the Botanic Gardens entrance issues pay-and-display permits, takes cash, VISA, or Discover cards, and costs $2 for 1 hour and $3 for 2 hours. The permit dispenser in Lot 10 at the bottom of the Botanic Gardens driveway takes Visa and Discover cards and issues pay-by-space permits. Permits in Lot 13 are pay-and-display and may be purchased with Visa and Discover cards. Daily parking permits may also be purchased at the Campus Kiosks located at the University Avenue entrance and the Canyon Crest entrance.

Admission

Admission to the UCR Botanic Gardens is free. We enjoy support from UC Riverside and CNAS, the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. However, over half of our operating budget comes from donations from our Friends members, supporters, and visitors. The suggested donation is $5 per adult, with students always welcomed for free.

Policies and Guidelines

The UCR Botanic Gardens is a living museum and certified wildlife habitat. In addition to a diversity of birds, lizards, and insects, we commonly see a variety of snakes throughout the year as well as coyotes, bobcats, and the occasional mountain lion. For your own protection and to protect our gardens and wildlife, we ask you to respect the following policies and guidelines:

Per UCR and/or UCR Botanic Gardens policies, these items are not allowed:

  • Pets
  • Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, or operation of drones
  • Alcohol, firearms, fires, or outdoor cooking
  • Smoking or tobacco products
  • Balloons or glitter

Please adhere to these UCR Botanic Gardens guidelines:

  • Stay on designated trails
  • Do not disturb or approach wildlife
  • Do not collect or trim material, disturb planting beds, or climb in trees
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult
  • Photography in groups of over 6 individuals require advance notification and permits

Photography Policy

Please refer to our Photography Policy before planning your visit and photo shoot.

We welcome photography in the UCR Botanic Gardens and hope you will share your photos with others to enjoy. Our staff work hard to maintain a beautiful setting for your casual and special event photos. This often means repairing the significant wear and tear that happens when groups assemble for photo shoots. Although admission to the Gardens is free, we request a donation of $5 per adult for small group photo shoots (up to 6) and a donation of $50 for larger groups (7 to 20).

Small group photo shoots (up to 6) are welcomed at any time the Gardens are open. Larger groups than 6, with a maximum of 20 individuals, must obtain permission in advance. This will insure that the Gardens are open and available and that there are no conflicts with other events or groups. Please read and fill out the form in our Photography Policy and contact us at 951.784.6962 or ucrbg@ucr.edu to submit the form and obtain more information. If you have not received permission in advance you may be asked to leave.

Thank You For Your Cooperation!
