Friends of UCR Botanic Gardens

BE A FRIEND!

...and contribute to the mission of the UCR Botanic Gardens. Formally established in 1980, the Friends provide support for the development and maintenance of the Gardens. Through funds accrued from our annual membership fees, contributions and public events and through volunteer member participation in various activities and projects, public areas are enhanced and the unique plant collections are continually expanded.

Together, we are helping to create an environment that truly serves the needs and desires of the community as well as those of the University. The Botanic Gardens you experience today would not have been possible without the input, generous support and enthusiasm of the Friends. Be a Friend and help us make a difference.

RECEIVE FRIENDS' BENEFITS

It is both inspiring and gratifying to contribute to a worthy undertaking such as the Botanic Gardens. However, when you become a Friend of the Botanic Gardens, you also benefit. Perhaps the most coveted of all the Friends' benefits is that of...

First Choice!

In the fall and spring of each year, plant sales are held in the Gardens. The choice of plants includes many rare varieties as well as some old-fashion favorites, all selected with our climate in mind.

**The first three hours of the first day of each sale is reserved for Friends to make their purchases.

Plus, our Annual Seed List gives Friends the opportunity to choose from seeds of rare and hard-to-find plants.

American Horticultural Society Reciprocal Admissions Program

A Friends membership entitles you to the Reciprocal Admissions Program (RAP) which gives you special admissions privileges and discounts at nearly 300 participating gardens.  To find a participating garden, click here and enter the zip code to search.

Special Invitations

Friends are invited to many special membership events, including:

  • The Fall Lecture
  • The Winter Luncheon
  • Spring Outing (bus trips to botanical gardens and museums)
  • The Annual Meeting

These are fun, informal and satisfying social occasions, featuring tasty food, drink, and programs of garden and botanical interest.

Save $$$

Friends receive a discount when they attend  many events, including the Bird Walk Breakfast, our enjoyable garden tours  through the In The Garden series and our Kids Adventure tours.

The Quarterly Newsletter

You will receive our official Botanic Gardens newsletter. Collected as a resource by many Friends, the newsletter contains pertinent articles on horticulture, Botanic Gardens Activities, plants for inland areas, a calendar of member and other events of interest, related travel and more. Concomitant with the plant sales, the newsletter highlights several of the plants to be offered.
